New James Bond Movie “Skyfall” Set for 2012 Release

A new film in the James Bond franchise, “Skyfall” is set to hit US theatres on November 9. “Skyfall” would be the twenty-third film installment in the franchise, and will star Daniel Craig once again as Agent 007. The film’s plot would revolve around the test of loyalty James Bond has for M as her past haunts her. Javier Bardem would play as the movie’s main antagonist by the name of “Raoul Silva”, and Naomie Harris as “Eve”, one of the Bond girls. The film is directed by Sam Mendez.

There had been a lot of news about “Skyfall” even before the film started. For one, it’s been said that Naomie Harris’ character as Eve would actually be Moneypenny, and it would be revealed on the film. However, Harris stated that “Eve”, her character, is not exactly office-bound to be Moneypenny. Also, the character of Q would be returning in a James Bond film after being absent in the past two films in “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace”. Ben Whishaw would portray the character of Q. On another note, Judi Dench would play the crucial role of M for the seventh consecutive time. For Daniel Craig, it would be his third consecutive Bond film since “Casino Royale”.

Even though in its pre-release stage, the official “Skyfall” photobook has recently been launched, with photos of the staff and crew, including on-site filming and the candidate lead Bond girls. There were also interviews released. A James Bond poster of “Skyfall” wouldn’t be that much far from now from its upcoming release.  It would be very cool to be have one of those “Skyfall” James Bond posters, so you should be on a look out for them.

The location of “Skyfall” would be international as the other Bond movies, but this film would see more Asian locations. The crew had shot several scenes at Istanbul’s Sultanahmet Square, Hagia Sophia, and on Adana, the city of Fethiye and Varda Railway Bridge. Adana would stand in for the outskirts of Istanbul, while some scenes would be set on Hashima Island, an abandoned island south of mainland Japan.  There are also confirmed scenes shot in China, specifically Shanghai. Lastly, and of course, there were scenes shot in London.

For those who can’t wait for the Bond girls, there are three Bond girls mentioned so far: Naomie Harris as Eve, Berenice Marlohe as Severine, and Tonia Sotiropoulou in a yet unnamed character. If you’re excited about the gadgets and the car, there were reports that the crew brought in an Aston Martin DB5 in Deptford District in London. If not for MGM’s prior financial troubles, “Skyfall” would have been filmed and set for release in 2010. However, “Skyfall” would instead be released on the 50th anniversary of the first Bond film “Dr. No”, to be followed by a documentary on the James Bond movie franchise. “Skyfall” is also the first Bond movie to be shown in IMAX theaters.
